Ferris State Men's Tennis Advances To GLIAC Tourney Championship Match

Big Rapids, Mich. - The top-seeded Ferris State University men's tennis team battled back from an early deficit to beat rival Northwood and advance to the 2016 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament Championship Match with a 5-2 semifinal win on Saturday (April 30) at the Midland Community Tennis Center.

The Bulldogs, who repeated as the league's outright regular-season champion this campaign, avenged last year's setback to the Timberwolves in the title match by taking four of the five completed singles flights.

Northwood had built a 2-1 lead following the doubles round before the Bulldogs battled back in singles competition to improve to 20-4 overall this campaign.

Ferris State, which is ranked second in the NCAA Midwest Regional Rankings and 36th in the country, will now square off against second-seeded Grand Valley State in Sunday's (May 1) GLIAC Championship Match. The title match gets underway at 8:30 a.m. (ET) in Midland.

Both FSU and GVSU earned first-round tournament byes in the six-team league tourney field. Earlier this year, the Bulldogs topped the Lakers 6-3 in regular-season competition.

In Sunday's title encounter, the Bulldogs will attempt to claim both the GLIAC's regular-season and tournament titles in the same season for the first time since 1994.
