Big Rapids, Mich. - Sophomore standout Vasil Surduk (Moscow, Russia) has been chosen as the 2015-16 Division II Men's Tennis Midwest Region Player To Watch.

The award was announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) in conjunction with the NCAA Division II Tennis Championships in Denver this week where Surduk has helped the Bulldogs reach the NCAA Final Four for the first time in school history.

Surduk played a key role as the Bulldogs captured their second-straight Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Regular Season Championship in 2016. He went 8-1 in both conference singles and doubles action during the regular season as FSU claimed the outright league crown for the second year in a row while finishing with a perfect 9-0 record in the GLIAC. For his efforts, he was chosen as the GLIAC Player of the Year.

In addition, prior to postseason competition, Surduk finished with an overall 15-7 regular-season mark in dual singles play while also combining for a 16-6 doubles ledger. Surduk competed at both the number one singles and doubles positions as FSU capped regular-season action unbeaten for the second year in a row.

Since the end of the regular season, Surduk has continued his impressive play in the postseason. He helped the Bulldogs complete a season sweep by winning the GLIAC Tournament in Midland and then lifted FSU to the Midwest Regional crown at home in Big Rapids last week.

This week, Surduk and the Bulldogs have pulled off back-to-back wins at the Division II Sports Festival in Denver, including a thrilling 5-4 victory in the Sweet Sixteen against Concordia (N.Y.) on Wednesday followed by a 5-2 Elite Eight triumph over Midwestern State (Texas) on Thursday.

The Bulldogs, who have compiled a school-record 25 wins to date this campaign, will square off against Hawaii Pacific in the national semifinals on Friday (May 20) afternoon in Denver starting at 3 p.m. (ET).
