Ferris State Opens Action In Men's Tennis ITA Regional Championships

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis team opened action in the 2016 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional Championships on Friday (Sept. 16) in Indianapolis.

The annual ITA regional championships features individual-based competition in both singles and doubles play across various flights. Action took place at Center Grove High School in nearby Greenwood before being moved inside to the University of Indianapolis due to weather condidtions on Friday.

In singles action, the Bulldogs' Till von Winning remained alive as he picked up a pair of wins in the open round. The fifth-seeded sophomore was a straight-set winner in both the first and second rounds of competition as he advanced to Saturday's action.

FSU's Steward Sell won his opening match in straight-sets before falling to Austin Woody of Northwood 6-1, 6-4 in the second round.

Meanwhile, Pablo Munoz Baroja also won his first encounter before dropping a second-round decision against James Hardiman of Southern Indiana.

In doubles action, the Bulldog pairing of Sell and Von Winning, who are seeded third in the draw, were 9-8 (0) winners agaisnt the Missouri-St. Louis combination of Ben Kasprzak and Alberto Maza Martin in round one.

Action continues on Saturday at the ITA Regional Championships.
