Ferris State Men's Tennis Suffers First Loss With Road Setback At 15th-Ranked Midwestern State

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis squad suffered its first setback of the 2017 campaign on Tuesday (March 7) as the nationally 20th-ranked Bulldogs fell on the road to 15th-ranked Midwestern state (Texas) by a 7-2 count in Wichita Falls, Texas.

The Bulldogs, who had upset 16th-ranked Cameron (Okla.) on Monday to open its spring trip, fell behind 3-0 after the doubles round and could not rally back against the Mustangs.

The hosts avenged a 5-2 setback a year ago to the Bulldogs in the NCAA Division II Elite Eight in Denver, Colo.

On Tuesday, Midwestern State took the three doubles positions by 8-4, 8-5 and 8-4 scores before coming back to claim the top four singles positions.

Ferris State's lone wins came from Daniil Tarantinov and Pablo Munoz Baroja at the fifth and sixth singles flights in straight-sets. MSU's singles wins included a pair of three-set victories at the top two spots in the lineup.

With the loss, Ferris State now holds a 6-1 overall record this spring.

The Bulldogs will play their final match on the trip Thursday (March 9) as they visit Southeastern Oklahoma for an 11 a.m. (ET) non-league encounter.
