#15 Ferris State Men's Tennis Dominates GLIAC Rival Grand Valley State In League Showdown
Big Rapids, Mich. - The nationally 15th-ranked Ferris State University men's tennis squad won a pivotal early season Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) showdown as FSU stormed past West Michigan rival Grand Valley State for an 8-1 triumph on Tuesday (March 28) afternoon at the Premier Athletic Club in Grandville.
The Bulldogs won the match, which was moved up from a late night start and played outside with the weather conditions, in remaining unbeaten in the GLIAC. FSU improved to 10-2 overall and 3-0 in conference action with the win.
The match pitted two unbeaten squads in the GLIAC as GVSU entered the showdown also unbeaten in two previous conference encounters. The Lakers fell to 12-6 overall and 2-1 in league action with the setback.
Ferris State opened up a 2-1 lead following doubles action with victories at the top two spots in the lineup over the Lakers. GVSU's lone win in the match came at the third doubles spot by an 8-3 score.
In singles competition, Ferris State dominated, sweeping all six flights in straight-sets to knock off the Lakers. The Bulldogs got a pair of wins on the day in both singles and doubles action from the top four players in the lineup including Till von Winning, Vasil Surduk, Steward Sell and Nur Adim Ramdani Iswan.
Ferris State will hit the road this weekend for a pair of league road tilts in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. FSU visits Lake Superior State on Saturday (April 1) at 10 a.m. (ET) before facing Michigan Tech on Sunday (April 2) in Houghton also at 10 a.m. (ET).
