Ferris State Men's Tennis Holds Off Wayne State To Remain In First Place In GLIAC

Big Rapids, Mich. - Visiting Wayne State gave nationally 15th-ranked Ferris State University all the Bulldogs could handle in men's tennis action on Sunday (April 9), but FSU prevailed in the end 5-4 to stay unbeaten in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.

The region's eighth-ranked Warriors trailed FSU 2-1 following the doubles round before rallying back to knot the match at four wins apiece. The contest came down to the third-set tiebreaker at two singles where the Bulldogs' Vasil Surduk pulled out a 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-2 triumph to lift FSU to the win.

Ferris State picked up doubles wins at the first two spots in the lineup and got singles wins at the fifth and six flights from Daniil Tarantinov and Pablo Munoz Baroja, repsectively, along with the one from Surduk.

Wayne State, though, pulled out a tight win at the third doubles flight and managed to win the first, third and fourth singles positions in the closest match to date in league play for the region's top-ranked Bulldogs.

Ferris State improved to 14-2 overall and 7-0 in the GLIAC by winning its eighth-straight contest this year. WSU fell to 6-10 overall and 3-3 in league action with the setback.

The Bulldogs close out the GLIAC regular-season slate on the road at Walsh and Tiffin next Friday and Saturday (April 14-15), respectively.

By winning each of its final two league regular-season tilts, Ferris State can secure a third-straight conference regular-season championship as the Bulldogs are the only remaining unbeaten team in GLIAC play this year.
