Men's Tennis Wins Tightly-Contested Opener In Spring Trip To Hilton Head

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis squad posted its second win in as many days as FSU topped Chowan by a 5-4 score on Saturday (March 3) in late afternoon action in Hilton Head, S.C.

The Bulldogs began their spring break trip in Hilton Head where they will play four more matches over the next five days at the Spring TennisFest during the annual university break.

The match came less than a day after the Bulldogs pulled out a hard-fought regional win on the road over Southern Indiana in Evansville on Friday afternoon.

In the victory on Saturday, Ferris State led 2-1 following the doubles round as the tandem of Steward Sell and Nur Adim Ramdani Iswan notched a 9-7 triumph at the one spot with Mathis Guerre and Pablo Munoz Baroja teaming up for an 8-5 decision at the third flight.

In singles play, Chowan earned a pair of straight-set victories at the first and second flights in the lineup along with a triumph at six singles.

However, the Bulldogs got a straight-set victory from Daniil Tarantinov at three singles along with a three-set triumph from Guerre at the fourth flight and a 6-2, 6-3 decision by Baroja at the fifth flight to pull out the win.

With the victory, Ferris State improved to 5-2 overall this campaign. The Hawks dropped to 3-2 overall with the setback.

The contest was a rematch of last year's NCAA Division II Sweet Sixteen match won by the Bulldogs in the national tournament.

Ferris State resumes action at the event on Sunday (March 4) with an 11:30 a.m. (ET) tilt against Salem International (W.Va.) in Hilton Head.
