Ferris State Battles Back For Road Victory To Stay Atop GLIAC Standings

Big Rapids, Mich. - The nationally 17th-ranked Ferris State University men's tennis squad fought back from an early deficit to stay unbeaten in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play with a hard-fought 5-4 road triumph over Wayne State on Sunday (April 8) in Detroit.

The Bulldogs trailed 2-1 following the doubles round before bouncing back to win four of the six singles flights for their 13th consecutive win this year. The victory came at the Wayne State Multipurpose Indoor Facility and lifted FSU to 16-2 overall and a perfect 6-0 in the GLIAC.

In doubles action, the Bulldogs got a key 9-7 win from the number three tandem of Pablo Munoz Baroja and Mathis Guerre to keep the difference at a single point heading into singles competition. WSU won the top doubles flight 8-5 and pulled out an 8-4 win at the number two spot in the lineup.

Ferris State, though, was strong in the singles round as the Bulldogs secured wins in straight-sets at the one, two and five spots to go with a deciding three-set victory from Daniil Tarantinov at the third flight to pull out the victory.

Along with Tarantinov, FSU's singles winners included Stewward Sell at the number one flight along with Nur Adim Ramdani Iswan at two singles and Baroja at the number five flight.

Heading into the tilt, the Warriors only had a single loss in the GLIAC standings. They fell to 10-10 overall and 3-2 in conference play with the setback.

Ferris State currently holds a one-match lead over second place Davenport in the GLIAC and will host the Panthers in a first-place showdown on Wednesday, April 11, at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center in Big Rapids. The match is an evening affair slated for a 6 p.m. (ET) start. FSU then closes regular-season action on the road at Purdue Northwest Friday (April 13) starting at 10 a.m. (ET).
