Ferris State Earns First Men's Tennis Victory Of Year With Regional Triumph At Lewis

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis squad picked up its first win of the year on Saturday (Feb. 16) night as the Bulldogs claimed a 4-3 victory over regional foe Lewis (Ill.) in non-league evening action at the Five Star Tennis Center in Plainfield, Ill.

The Bulldogs fell behind early as Lewis won the first and third doubles flights to grab the early edge, but FSU battled back and won four of six singles positions en route to the win.

In doubles play, FSU got a 6-1 triumph from the tandem of Pablo Munoz Baroja and Mathis Guerre at the number two spot in the lineup.

Meanwhile, during the singles round, Ferris State's Steward Sell was a straight-set winner at the top flight with Baroja scoring a close two-set victory at three singles. Guerre also won in straight-sets at the fourth spot with Ayush Deswal picking up a win a six singles.

With the win, Ferris State improved to 1-3 overall this year with two of the losses coming to NCAA Division I Western Michigan last week. Lewis fell to 2-2 overall with the setback.

The Bulldogs will play their first two home matches this coming week at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center in Big Rapids. FSU hosts longtime regional rival Indianapolis on Friday (Feb. 22) at 3 p.m. (ET) before entertaining former GLIAC counterpart Tiffin on Saturday (Feb. 23) starting at 2:30 p.m. (ET).
