Ferris State's Run Thru GLIAC Tournament Ends In Championship Round

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis team's run thru the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament came to an end on Sunday (April 28) as the Bulldogs fell in the league championship match to top-seeded Wayne State by a 4-2 score at the Greater Midland Tennis Center.

The Bulldogs, who were seeded third and knocked off second-seeded rival Grand Valley State in Saturday night's semifinals, fell behind 1-0 following doubles play against the Warriors and were not able to pull off the comeback.

FSU was making its fifth consecutive appearance in the GLIAC Tournament Championship match and the Bulldogs had rallied each of the previous two rounds in the league tournament after dropping the doubles point.

In the match against Wayne State, Ferris State was able to pick up singles wins from Mathis Guerre at the number four flight and Connor Douglas, who was also a straight-set winner at six singles.

However, Wayne State registered key wins at one and two singles along with picking up the victory at the fifth flight to pull out the victory.

WSU improved to 20-3 overall this season and the Warriors' league title was the school's first and ended the Bulldogs' three-year run atop the conference tournament. FSU had captured four of the last seven GLIAC Tournament Championships prior to the setback.

Ferris State, which was ranked seventh in the most recent NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Rankings, will now await the official selections for the NCAA Tournament, which will not be announced until Tuesday, May 7, at 8:30 p.m. (ET) at NCAA.com.
