Ferris State Men's Tennis Caps Perfect Regular Season As GLIAC Champs

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis squad capped a perfect regular-season and won the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championship for the fifth time in six tries by beating Michigan Tech 6-1 on Saturday (April 17) in Houghton.

The Bulldogs claimed their 19th conference title by topping the Huskies to improve to a perfect 13-0 overall and 8-0 in the GLIAC. The match was the final regular-season tilt on the men's side for the Bulldogs.

FSU has now won five of the last six regular-season titles that have been awarded after previously winning the conference from 2015-18. Wayne State captured the 2019 title and no crown was awarded in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Along with the men's team, the Bulldog women also captured their first conference regular-season crown since 2002 with an identical 6-1 win over the Huskies.

The Bulldog men controlled play against the Huskies, winning the three doubles flights by scores of 6-2, 6-0 and 6-1 from the first thru the third flights, respectively.

In the singles round, FSU took the top five flights in the lineup with all coming in straight-sets as MTU's lone victory of the encounter came at six singles.

The Huskies fell to 0-11 overall and 0-6 in the GLIAC with the setback.

Ferris State will take part in the GLIAC Tournament as the number one seed with the event set for April 23-25 in Midland.
