Ferris State Tennis Standouts Garner All-GLIAC Accolades

Big Rapids, Mich. - A total of nine Ferris State University men's and women's tennis standouts earned All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) honors for the 2022-23 season and the Bulldogs brought home two major awards as the league announced its annual postseason awards recipients in conjunction with the conference tournament this past weekend.

The Bulldogs' head coach Mark Doren earned GLIAC Men's Tennis Coach of the Year honors while freshman Erik Kovacs claimed the GLIAC Men's Tennis Freshman of the Year Award in voting by the league's member head coaches.

FSU, which won the GLIAC Regular-Season Championship in men's tennis, dominated the all-league voting as all six members of the Ferris State lineup garnered all-conference laurels. The Bulldogs had three more selections overall than any other school in the conference.

In the men's all-conference voting, FSU's Jan Koupil and Benjamin Lortie joined Kovacs in garnering All-GLIAC First Team honors. Meanwhile, Yannic Alexander Mader and Alessandro Santangelo were All-GLIAC Second Team choices while newcomer Esunge Ndumbe received GLIAC Honorable Mention laurels.

On the women's side, the Bulldogs had an all-conference first team honoree in Sophie Daavettila along with a second-team choice in Morgan Waller and an honorable mention pick in Ana Sofia Hernandez Ferrer.

The Ferris State men's team finished as the GLIAC Tournament Runner-Up this past weekend and is expected to receive the program's 26th all-time and eighth-straight national tournament berth when the official NCAA Postseason selections are announced on Monday (April 24) evening.
