Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis team advanced to the NCAA Division II Midwest Region final as the Bulldogs defeated the Tiffin Dragons 4-2 on Saturday (April 29) in the opening round of national tournament action in Indianapolis.

Ferris State won the doubles point and claimed singles wins at two, five and six to garner the win, beating TU for the second time this year.

With the win, the Bulldogs will face host and nationally fifth-ranked Indianapolis in the regional final on Sunday (April 30) with match time set for 10 a.m. (ET).

In the win over the Dragons, Ferris State picked up doubles wins at the second and third spots in the lineup for the initial point of the contest. FSU's Esunge Ndumbe and Alessandro Santangelo were victorious by a 6-3 count at two doubles with Erik Kovacs and Yannic Alexander Mader taking a decisive 6-1 win at the third spot.

During the singles round, Kovacs pushed the FSU advantage to 2-0 with a straight-set win at two singles. However, the Dragons responded by taking the first and third flights in straight-sets to knot the match up at two wins apiece.

The fourth, fifth and sixth flights all went to third sets. During the contest, with FSU's Santangelo serving at match point at five singles, play was halted outdoors due to rain where the match began at Center Grove High School in Greenwood. Action was shifted indoors to the UIndy Tennis Center and Santangelo needed only two points to close out his match indoors.

Finally, Ndumbe, a freshman, sealed the triumph for the Bulldogs by pulling out a three-set win at six singles to lift the Bulldogs to the win.

Ferris State improved to 16-4 overall this year.

The Bulldogs are making their 26th all-time NCAA Tournament appearance, including the eighth year in a row. Ferris State has also advanced to the regional finals for the first time since 2019.
