FSU Teams Combine For Seven Wins At SVSU

The Ferris State University men's and women's indoor track and field teams combined for seven first-place finishes during the annual Saginaw Valley State Collegiate Classic held Friday (Jan. 29) evening inside the Ryder Center in Univ. Center, Mich.

The non-scoring event included competitors from schools such as FSU, SVSU, Davenport, Lake Superior State along with various unattached athletes.

Senior Emily Cross won the 60-meter hurdles (9.22) and finished third in the high jump (1.61m) for the Bulldog women.

Senior Tina Muir placed first in the 3,000 meters (9:48.55) and freshman Alyssa Osika was victorious in the 800 meters (2:22.67) as the Bulldog women won three individual events.

Freshman Shelby Janutol claimed runner-up honors in the 800 meters (2:22.90), freshman Anna Rudd placed second in the 3,000 meters (10:18.37) and senior Megan Josey took fourth place in the 3,000 meters (10:52.85).

Junior Sarah Creed finished seventh overall in the 800 meters (2:36.04), sophomore Andrea Fogle was seventh in the weight throw (12.56m) and freshman Felicia Peacock was eighth in the 3,000 meters (11:19.21).

FSU also won the women's distance medley relay (13:01.77) and was second in the 4x400-meter relay (4:22.32).

The Bulldog men also had three first-place individual performances in the meet.

Senior Mike Mangieri finished first in the 800 meters (1:57.55), sophomore Tyler Crossman took first in the 3,000 meters (8:51.78) and sophomore Justin Price claimed first place in the 400 meters (52.78). Price was also fifth in the 200 meters (23.94).

Redshirt freshman Keith Curtis was fourth in the 400 meters (53.46) and sixth in the 200 meters (24.35) for the Bulldogs.

Senior Brian Reynolds claimed fourth place in the 3,000 meters (9:07.49) and junior Derek Childs finished fifth in the 3,000 meters (9:11.34).

Sophomore J.J. Vandenburg placed fourth in the shot put (12.91m) and fifth in the weight throw (14.32m), sophomore Jake Page took sixth place in the 400 meters (54.85), freshman Ryan Chute wound up seventh in the 800 meters (2:03.51) while freshman Gary Atkins placed eighth in both the 60 meters (7.51) and the 200 meters (24.47).

The Bulldog men also took both second (11:01.86) and third (11:15.67) in the distance medley relay along with fifth in the 4x400-meter relay (3:45.25).

In addition to the SVSU meet, the Bulldogs also sent a team of pole vaulters to the Grand Valley State Open on Friday (Jan. 29) evening in Allendale.  Senior Greg Burns placed second overall in a field of 18 men's vaulters with a national provisional qualifying performance of 15-9 while sophomore Jessica Schewe came in third overall (10-0) for FSU in the women's competition.

The Bulldogs will next compete in the Division II Challenge on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 5-6, in Findlay, Ohio.
