Ferris Indoor Track Runs In GVSU "Big Meet"

Allendale, Mich. - Ferris State University men's and women's indoor track and field competitors traveled to nearby Grand Valley State to take part in the GVSU "Big Meet" this past weekend (Feb. 11-12) inside the Laker Turf Building in Allendale.

One of the year's biggest meets, the event included participants from schools at all levels, including Michigan, Michigan State, FSU, GVSU, Hillsdale, Calvin, Valparaiso, Davenport and many more.

The Bulldogs' Michael Schulte captured third place honors in Friday night's open portion of the men's 5,000 meter run (15:24.28) while teammate Derek Childs took 10th place in the same event (15:36.45).

Bulldog sophomore Ryan Chute came in third overall in the men's mile run open race (4:17.23).

Meanwhile, on the women's side, FSU was paced by sophomore Felicia Slate, who was fourth overall in the women's open 5,000 meters (18:44.28) on Friday night.

Ferris State was also fifth in the women's distance medley race (12:0.1.40) with a quartet featuring senior Paige Onweller, sophomore Zoey Hohmann, sophomore Alyssa Osika and freshman Samantha Johnson.

Many of the events in the non-scoring team competition featured 50 participants or more over the course of the weekend.

The Bulldogs are next slated to compete in the GVSU Indoor Meet at the same location on Friday, Feb. 18, in Allendale.
