FSU Track Takes Part In Final Indoor Tune-Up

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's indoor track and field teams had their final tune-ups prior to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Indoor Championships as they competed in the Grand Valley State Indoor Meet on Friday (Feb. 18) in Allendale.

Freshman Samantha Johnson came in third overall in the mile run (4;55.85) while surpassing the NCAA Division II National Indoor provisional qualification standard inside GVSU's Laker Turf Building.  Johnson also came in fourth overall in the 800 meters (2:16.82).

Sophomore Zoey Hohmann also reached a provisional qualification mark by placing third in the 400 meters (57.24).  She also placed third in the 200 meters (26.17).

In the 3,000 meters, the Bulldogs had four of the top seven finishers as Anna Rudd was second (10:07.35), Alyssa Osika took third (10:20.22), Brittany Anderson finished fifth (10:24.36) and Breeann Ovokaitys took seventh place (10:30.61).

Alesha Reed placed seventh in the high jump (4-9.75) while Kendra Miller came in seventh in the pole vault (8-4.25).  Andrea Fogle wound up eighth in the weight throw (44-3.25) for the Bulldog women's squad.

FSU's Ryan Chute finished fifth in the men's 800 meters (1:57.01) and was seventh in the 3,000 meters (8:47.45).  

Michael Schulte captured eighth place in the 3,000 meters (8:48.26) while Kyle Walch took eighth place in the men's 60-meter hurdles (8.88).

Ryan Hecksel was sixth overall in the pole vault (12-9.50) for the Bulldog men.

The meet was a non-scoring competition with athletes from schools such as FSU, GVSU, St. Francis, Hope, Calvin, Hillsdale, Adrian and others.

The 2011 GLIAC Indoor Championships will be held on the campus of Saginaw Valley State University at James E. O'Neill Arena inside the Ryder Center on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 25-26, in University Center, Mich.  

Action gets underway with the multi events on Friday morning followed by the start of the track and field competition at 3:50 p.m. (ET).  The meet wraps up on Saturday at approximately 3 p.m. (ET).
