FSU Track & Field Opens 2011 Outdoor Season

Big Rapids, Mich. – The Ferris State University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams opened the 2011 outdoor campaign by sending selected student-athletes to the prestigious adidas Raleigh Relays on Friday and Saturday (March 25-26) in Raleigh, N.C.

The large annual competition was hosted by North Carolina State University at Paul Derr Track and included student-athletes from schools at all levels of competition.

FSU's Jessica Pilling took fifth place in the women's hammer throw (48.77m) while leading the Bulldogs at the meet.

Freshman Samantha Johnson finished 11th in section one of the 1,500 meters (4:35.48) while sophomore Anna Rudd took 11th place in the 10,000 meters (36:36.40).

Also, the Bulldogs' Amy Joostberns finished 13th in the discus (40.81m).

On the men's side, Ryan Chute paced the Bulldogs by placing eighth overall in section three of the 5,000 meters (14:56.37).

FSU was also 10th in the women's 4x800-meter relay (9:32.30).

Ferris State next is slated to compete in the Aquinas Open next Saturday (April 2) in Grand Rapids before hosting the annual Bulldog Invitational the following Saturday (April 9) at FSU's Top Taggart Field.
