FSU Track Runs In Grand Rapids Open

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams competed in the Grand Rapids Open hosted by Aquinas College on Friday and Saturday (April 1-2) in Grand Rapids.

The non-scoring field included student-athletes from West Michigan schoolls in the area such as FSU, Davenport, Aquinas, Cornerstone, Hope and Calvin.

Jessica Pilling won the women's hammer throw (162-7) for the Bulldogs and Zoey Hohmann was victorious in the women's 400 meters (58.51).

Freshman Samantha Johnson earned runner-up laurels in the women's 1,500 meters (4:43.98).

The men's team was paced by Ryan Chute, who finished third in the 1,500 meters (4:04.99).  FSU also received a men's third-place effort from J.J. Vandenburg in the men's hammer throw (157-2).

The Bulldogs had a total of six combined third-place finishes in the men's and women's competition.

Ferris State returns home to host the annual Bulldog Invitational on Saturday, April 9, at FSU's Top Taggart Field.  The meet serves as the lone home competition for the Bulldogs this year and is slated to get started at 11 a.m. (ET).
