Muir Highlights First Day At GVSU "Big Meet"

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's indoor track and field squads opened action in the Grand Valley State "Big Meet" on Friday (Feb. 10) at the Kelly Family Sports Center in Allendale, Mich.

The annual two-day meet, which continues all day Saturday (Feb. 11), features over 50 schools and nearly 1,800 entries.

Bulldog senior standout Tina Muir had one of the day's biggest highlights as she posted a meet record and reached the NCAA's automatic national qualification mark by winning the 5,000 meter open field in a time of 16:28.71 on Friday afternoon.  The race featured nearly 100 runners.

Junior Shelby Janutol placed 12th in the women's one mile run invitational field with a time of 4:56.73. Also, FSU junior Zoey Hohmann took 14th overall in the invite portion of the 400 meters for the women's team as she clocked 57.16 on Friday.

On the men's side, junior Ryan Chute was 20th in the mile run invitational race as he posted a time of 4:13.87 overall. 

Bulldog junior David Silversmith finished 28th in the 5,000 meter run open field (14:58.75), which included nearly 175 runners.

Ferris State will continue action in the "Big Meet" on Saturday in Allendale.
