Bulldogs Post Several National Qualifying Marks

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams had one final opportunity to compete and qualify for the national championships this past weekend (May 11-12).

The Bulldogs took part in two seperate Last Chance meets hosted by Grand Valley State at the GVSU Track & Field/Lacrosse Stadium in Allendale, Mich.  The Lakers hosted the Second To Last Chance meet on Friday followed by the Last Chance meet on Saturday.  Both events included student-athletes from schools across the region.

In Friday's competition, the Bulldogs' Zoey Hohmann took second place and posted a qualifying time in the 400 meters (55.80). 

Senior Tina Muir was third overall and posted an automatic qualifying time in the 1,500 meters (4:26.03). Junior Shelby Janutol recorded a provisional time in the 1,500 meters (4:31.80) with junior Anna Rudd coming in 10th in the same event (4:39.79).

Sophomore Jessica Pilling tossed 170-10 in reaching the national provisionial standard in the hammer throw.  Jordan McGuire was sixth in the 5,000 meters (18:28.35) while Shea Van Klompenberg took 15th overall in the 800 meters (2:20.99).

FSU's Justin Price placed third in the 400 meters (48.41).  Ryan Chute placed eighth in the 1,500 meters and reached the national provisional qualifying time (3:52.66).

Spencer Gerber also competed in the 1,500 meters and took 12th place (3:58.35) with Alex Bladecki coming in 14th in the same race (4:01.44).

Alex Best was 14th in the 5,000 meters (15:22.02) and Michael Schulte finished 21st (15:57.26) in the race.

In Saturday's meet, Pilling took fifth place in the hammer throw (173-3) while reaching the national provisional standard.

FSU's Price finished first in section one of the 200 meters (22.40) with Thomas Lyons fourth in the same section (22.58).

Price also came in fourth overall in the first section of the 400 meters (48.38) and narrowly missed the national qualifying mark in the race.

Chute took second place in the 1,500 meters (3:57.40).

Selected athletes will compete in the NCAA Division II National Outdoor Championships beginning on May 24 at the Neta and Eddie DeRose Thunderbowl in Pueblo, Colo.  The official announcement of this year's national qualifiers will be made early this week.
