Three National-Qualifying Marks for Bulldog Indoor Track
Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's indoor track and field teams had a limited number of student-athletes open competition for the first time on Friday (Nov. 30) night at the Laker Early Bird Meet hosted by Grand Valley State in Allendale.
The non-scoring event included student-athletes from several schools at the Kelly Family Sports Center before an announced crowd of 1,284 fans.
Despite having only a limited number of competitors take part, the Bulldogs were able to post three national-qualifying performances.
FSU's Anna Rudd came in third overall in the 5,000 meters with an NCAA Division II National Provisional qualification time of 16:51.67 in the race.
Junior Jessica Pilling came in third overall in the weight throw while also reaching a national provisional mark with a toss of 16.64 meters (54-7.25).
Shea Van Klompenberg took ninth place in the 400 meters (1:00.54)
On the men's side, senior Ryan Chute won the 5,000 meters with a provisional time of 14:34.62. Junior David Silversmith came in 10th overall in the same race at 15:04.60.
Meanwhile, Brian Murphy took 10th place in the 400 meters (51.69).
The Bulldogs will resume action for the 2013 indoor campaign in early January.
