FSU Track Teams Perform Well At CMU Open Friday Night

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's indoor track and field teams opened second semester action on Friday night (Jan. 11) with several noteworty performances at the Central Michigan Open held in Mt. Pleasant, Mich.

FSU's Anna Rudd won the women's mile (5:08.34) while junior Samantha Johnson came in third (5:20.40) and sophomore Breeann Ovokaitys was fourth (5;26.35).  Senior Jordan Best also placed in the event by finishing fifth.

Rudd also won the women's 3,000 meters (10:02.99) with Johnson finishing sixth (10:46.41) and Best placing eighth (10:50.84).

Meanwhile, sophomore Shea Van Klompenberg was first in the women's 400 meters (1:01.68) and sophomore Gabby Baur placed seventh (1:07.56).

Junior Jessica Pilling won the women's weight throw (53-11.25).  Ovokaitys was also seventh in the women's 800 meters (2:29.12).

Senior Ryan Chute was second in the men's mile (4:21.24) with junior Alex Bladecki taking seventh place (4:30.68).  Junior Connor LaRowe was fourth in the 800 meters (2:03.14) with Bladecki finishing sixth (2:03.94) and junior Bill King coming in eighth (2:04.16).

Chute came in second in the 3,000 meters as well (8:58.86) with junior Brandon Cushman taking fourth place (9:02.17) and sophomore Andrew Harper finishing sixth (9:07.18) along with junior David Silversmith in eighth place (9:10.67).

In the men's 400 meters, FSU captured places five thru eight as junior Brian Murphy (53.75), freshman Austin Syrek was sixth (54.25), sophomore Kyle Garner came in seventh (55.24) and junior Thomas Lyons placed eighth (55.71).

Sophomore Ryan Stankey came in third overall in the shot put (47-2.50) while sophomore David Jimpkoski took fourth place in the weight throw (52-7.25).  Senior JJ Vandenberg was seventh in the weight throw (48-7.50) for FSU.

Ferris State will next take part in the Mike Lints Laker Open hosted by Grand Valley State on Jan. 18 in Allendale.
