Bulldogs "Tune Up" For GLIAC Championships At GVSU Indoor Meet

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's indoor track and field teams took part in one final meet prior to the league championships as the Bulldogs sent selected competitors to the Grand Valley State "Tune-up" event on Friday (Feb. 15) night in Allendale.

The meet consisted of student-athletes from such West Michigan schools as FSU, GVSU, Calvin, Hope and Hillsdale in addition to others and was held at the Kelly Family Sports Center on the GVSU campus.

On the women's side, the Bulldogs finished with three individual event champions.

Shea Van Klompenberg took the 400 meters (58.31) while Anna Rudd won the mile run in a national provisional qualification time (4:53.67).  Rudd also placed eighth in the 800 meters (2:19.97)

Meanwhile, Jessica Pilling also won the shot put (40-10.50) while teammate Alison Busick came in sixth (34-8.25).  Pilling was fourth in the weight throw (56-8.50). Kristie LeSage took sixth place in the 3,000 meters (10:32.25)

Ferris State also came in fourth in the women's 4x400-meter relay (4:14.28) with a quartet consisting of Gabby Baur, Rachel Wood, Shaleen Williams and Van Klompenberg.

On the men's side, in the 3,000 meters, Ryan Chute claimed fourth place (8:34.82) while Alex Bladecki was fifth (8:35.34) and Andrew Harper wound up seventh (8:36.34).

Zachary Cross finished seventh in the 200 meters (22.72) while Chute was seventh in the 800 meters (1:56.25).

Ryan Stankey was seventh in the shot put (46-3.25) with JJ Vandenberg coming in eighth (45-6.25).  David Jimpkoski placed eighth in the weight throw (50-7.50).

Ferris State's men's 4x400-meter relay placed fifth (3:31.60) and consisted of Kyle Garner, Austin Syrek, Cross and Thomas Lyons.

Ferris State will next compete in the GLIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships slated for Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 23-24, at the Kelly Family Sports Center in Allendale.  The event begins on Saturday at 10 a.m. (ET).
