Two Bulldogs Win Events As Ferris State Competes In Spartan Invitational

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams returned to action this past weekend at the 2014 Spartan Invitational hosted by Michigan State University in East Lansing, Mich.

The two-day meet began on Friday (April 4) and wrapped up on Saturday (April 6) with competition at several venues including Ralph Young Track, Munn Field and Jenison Field House. It was a non-scoring meet and a number of Bulldog student-athletes competed in various events. The meet included student-athletes from a number of Division I, II and III institutions across the state along with other participants.

Ferris State's Zoey Hohmann won the 400 meters (57.73) while Gabby Baur was sixth (1:01.00) and Shea Van Klompenberg seventh (1:01.10) in the same race. Meanwhile, Briana Raasio was also a winner as she took the javelin (118-6).

The Bulldogs' Raven Blaser was seventh in the long jump (16-7) and came in eighth overall in the 200 meters (26.43) with Hohmann taking ninth place (26.52) in the event.

Raasio also finished ninth in both the discus (125-2) and hammer throw (122-3) while Alesha Reed placed 10th in the 100-meter hurdles (21.32).

On the men's side, Lucas Johnson came in fourth overall in the hammer throw (174-10).

Luca Cutraro placed sixth in the 400 meters (52.22) with Brian Murphy taking seventh place (52.40) in the same race.

Connor LaRowe claimed seventh place in the 800 meters (1:57.76) in helping lead the Bulldogs.

Ferris State is next back in action on Saturday, April 12, as FSU competes in the Hillsdale Invitational in Hillsdale, Mich.
