Ferris State Track & Field Competes Well At Aquinas Invite Late Friday Night

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's indoor track and field teams resumed competition on Friday (Jan. 21) night with a strong showing at the Aquinas Invitational held in Grand Rapids.

The event, which was a four-team quad meet, took part at Cook Track located in the Alksnis Athletic and Recreation Building.

The Bulldog men placed third overall with 100 total points while the women's squad earned 56 points in the competition, which also included host Aquinas, Spring Arbor and Hope.

FSU's Damonta Madden won the 60-meter dash (6.99) and also placed first in the 200 meters (22.96).

Senior Ryan Stankey was victorious in the shot put (48-0) with freshman teammate Ross Miller second (47-7) in the event. Miller placed first in the weight throw (47-5.75) with junior Austin Grant third (45-8) and freshman Brett Allpow fourth (44-7).

Ferris State took the top four spots in the men's mile run as sophomore Logan Hammer won the event (4:28.78) followed by Kyle Richardson (4:31.24) in second, junior Lucas Copi (4:33.24) in third and freshman Hunter Nivison in fourth (4:35.17).

Hammer also came in third in the men's 800 meters (2:05.17) with freshman Ben Lentz fourth (2:06.35) and sophomore Hunter Redman sixth (2:07.65).

Meanwhile, Richardson was the runner-up in the 3,000 meters (8:59.74) with freshman Trevor Holowaty fourth (9:05.62) and junior Lucas Copi fifth (9:13.14) in the same race.

Freshman Tyler Hall was sixth in the 60-meter hurdles (9.90) and freshman Josh Duggan placed sixth in the 400 meters (53.93).

On the women's side, sophomore Rachel Long won the weight throw (46-4) with freshman Maycee Robinson placing second (42-2) overall.

Senior Breeann Ovokaitys won the women's mile run (5:10.53) with sophomore Samantha Humphrey placing second (5:24.46), junior Emily Haynes fourth (5:28.26) and freshman Alyssa Cummings sixth (5:37.74) in the same race.

In the women's 800 meters, the Bulldogs took the second thru fourth positions with Ovokaitys earning runner-up honors (2:25.48) followed by Humphrey (2:30.71) and junior Paige Koskinen (2:35.42) in third place.

Freshman Jessica Delaney was third in the 3,000 meters (10:58.43) and Haynes came in fourth (11:01.15) in the same race.

Ferris State will next take part in the Saginaw Valley State "Cardinal" meet on Jan. 30-31 in University Center, Mich.
