Ferris State Track & Field Teams Complete GLIAC Outdoor Championships

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams wrapped up action in the 2015 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships on Friday (May 1) in Hillsdale, Mich.

The Bulldog women finished 11th overall with 25 points while the men's squad came in 14th with three points in the two days of action at Ken Herrick Track on the Hillsdale College campus.

On the women's side, senior Samantha Johnson earned runner-up honors in the 1,500 meters as she was clocked in 4:32.24 overall. Fellow senior Breeann Ovokaitys came in third overall (4:32.34).

Senior Briana Raasio also claimed All-GLIAC accolades as she came in third overall in the javelin (128-1). The top three finishers in each event were honored as all-conference recipients.

Junior Emily Haynes finished fifth in the 10,000 meters (37:47.79) for the Bulldog women and senior Ashley Hamilton placed eighth in the 800 meters (2:17.83).

On the men's side, FSU's Logan Hammer took seventh place in the 1,500 meters (3:59.97). Junior Lucas Copi recorded a eighth-place performance in the 10,000 meters (31:38.19) as the duo accounted for the Bulldogs' scoring in the meet.

Selected FSU student-athletes will next compete in the Grand Valley State Last Chance meet on Friday (May 8) in Allendale. The event will serve as the final competition for individuals to qualify for the NCAA-II Championships, which will also be held in Allendale at the end of May.
