Strong Day For Ferris State Track & Field As Bulldogs Finish Third At Alma Meet

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams had a strong day on Saturday (April 16) as the Bulldog squads both placed third overall at the Jim Cole Scottie Classic hosted by Alma College at Bahlke Field in Alma, Mich.

The Bulldog men's team tallied 110 total points in the meet with the women racking up 109 points as each team finished third overall on the day. The meet included 10 teams on both sides in the scoring competition, including competitors such as Hope, Alma, Lake Superior State, Northwood and others.

Overall, the Bulldogs finished with 37 top-eight place winners on the day, including 21 on the men's side and 16 more in the women's competition. The totals included seven event winners for the Bulldogs.

On the women's side, Shea Van Klompenberg won the 400 meters (59.14) and Shaleen Williams was fourth (1:03.35). Meanwhile, Sarah Utchel claimed the 100 meters (12.79) with Raven Blaser second (13.14). Utchel was a double-winner as she also took the 200 meters (26.52).

FSU's Rachel Long was the runner-up in the women's hammer throw (42.75m) with Lindsay Greahling recording a fifth-place finish (34.62m) in the event. Blaser placed third in the long jump (4.89m) and Greahling also took third place in the discus (33.58m).

Molly Emerick was third overall in the 800 meters (2:18.83) and Jordan Lee placed seventh (2:26.25).

In the 1,500 meters, FSU's Paige Koskinen earned runner-up honors (4:51.18). Emily Haynes was right behind her in third place (4:51.25) and Racheal McDonald came in fourth (4:55.19). Lydia Huisken netted a third-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles (17.21).

The Bulldog women were second overall in the 4x400-meter relay (4:13.42) with a grouping of Williams, Emerick, Koskinen and Van Klompenberg.

On the men's side, Brett Allpow won the discus (46.21m) with Hayden Francisco taking third place (41.76m) and Noah Minasola coming in sixth (38.72m).

Meanwhile, Cody Stillwell won the hammer throw (57.67m) with teammates Austin Grant (50.17m), Tyler Satkowiak (48.00m) and Allpow (47.92m) coming in third, fourth and fifth, respectively. Ross Miller finished seventh in the hammer (46.15m).

Gunnar Meyer won the javelin (50.54m) for the Bulldogs with Francisco placing third (41.97). Miller also placed fifth in the shot put (13.74m).

Ferris State's Logan Hammer was victorious in the 5,000 meters (15:25.27) and teammamtes Trevor Holowaty and Casey Neal placed fifth (16:26.23) and seventh (16:38.88), respectively.

Hunter Nivison was third overall in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:03.92) while Connor Pilmore finished sixth (10:07.90) and Zach Mckenzie took eighth (10:36.56).

Damien Halverson was the runner-up in the 1,500 meters (4:08.92) and Chris Triffo placed sixth in the 400 meters (54.94). Matt Crawford wound up sixth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:00.54).

Ferris State was also fifth in the men's 4x400-meter relay (3:41.63), which was ran by Crawford, John Alberts, Hunter Redman and Triffo.

The Bulldogs will be back in action next Friday and Saturday, April 22-23, at the Al Owens Classic hosted by Grand Valley State in Allendale. FSU will play host to the 2016 GLIAC Outdoor Championships set for May 4-6 at FSU's Top Taggart Field.
