Bulldog Track & Field Performs Well At Grand Valley State Indoor Open

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's track and field teams made the short trek to Allendale on Friday (Jan. 20) where the Bulldogs competed in the Grand Valley State Open at the Kelly Family Sports Center.

A contingent of Bulldog student-athletes competed in the indoor competition with the women totaling 13 points en route to a sixth-place team finish while the men also tallied 13 points in placing seventh overall. In the combined team race, the Bulldogs' 26 points finished seventh of 16 competing schools.

Along with FSU and host Grand Valley State, the field included student-athletes from such schools as Eastern Michigan, South Florida, Davenport, Northwood, Robert Morris, Alma and more.

The Bulldogs' Molly Emerick won the women's 800 meters as she clocked 2:13.72 while surpassing the NCAA Division II National Provisional qualification time.

FSU's Emily Haynes placed fifth in the 3,000 meters in a time of 10:21.11 with teammate Kathryn Etelamaki came in sixth overall in the same race by clocking 10:23.45.

Ferris State also took eighth place in the women's 4x400-meter relay as the Bulldogs' Jessica Van Bynen, Lydia Huisken, Nicole Snyder and Emerick ran a time of 4:27.91.

The Bulldogs' Raven Blaser narrowly missed placing in the long jump as her performance of 16-3.75 came in ninth overall.

The Ferris State men's team was led by Cody Stillwell, who finished third in the weight throw and had a national provisional qualifying throw (57-11.75). Teammate Ross Miller was eighth in the same event with a toss of 54-11.50 and Brett Allpow came in 10th (53-8.25).

Bulldog senior Logan Hammer recorded a fifth-place finish in the mile run (4:16.21)

FSU's Chris Triffo finished sixth in the 400 meters (51.77) with teammates Nate Meyer (52.76) and Lucas Harris (53.89) placing eighth and ninth, respectively, in the race.

In the shot put, Miller was seventh (48-4.75) and Allpow came in ninth (47-7.25).

Ferris State's JaJuan Pollock wound up ninth in the 60 meters in a time of 7.13 after advancing to the event finals. Trevor Holowaty placed ninth in the men's 3,000 meters (8:42.45).

The Bulldog men also placed fifth in the 4x400-meter relay as the quartet of Meyer, Harris, Hunter Redman and Triffo ran a time of 3:34.22. A second group of John Alberts, Hammer, Ethan Israels and Holowaty placed 10th (3:44.45).

Ferris State will compete next Friday and Saturday, Jan. 27-28, at the Saginaw Valley State Jet's Pizza Invitational in University Center, Mich.
