Ferris State Track & Field Records 19 Top-Eight Finishes At SVSU Jet's Pizza Invite

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's indoor track and field squads put together another strong showing over the weekend as the Bulldogs competed in the Saginaw Valley State Jet's Pizza Invitational.

The non-scoring event took place inside the SVSU Fieldhouse over Friday and Saturday (Jan. 27-28) in University Center. Athletes from a wide range of schools competed.

Ferris state took three of the top four spots in the women's 3,000 meters as Emily Haynes clocked 17:38.79 in earning runner-up honors. Kathryn Etelamaki came in third (18:09.74) with Racheal McDonald fourth (18:54.41).

Bulldog middle distance runner Molly Emerick placed third in the 800 meters (2:13.84) while reaching an NCAA Division II National Provisional qualification time.

Overall, Ferris State posted 19 top-eight performances in the competitive weekend event.

The women's distance medley relay team also earned runner-up laurels as the pairing of Emerick, Nicole Snyder, Larissa Medich and Jennifer Eaton ran a time of 12:44.99 in the race.

The Bulldogs' Sarah Utchel placed fourth in the 60 meters (7.98) and she also was sixth in the 200 meters (26.37).

In the throws, Maycee Robinson was sixth in the weight throw (51-4.50).

The Bulldog men were led by Cody Stillwell, who won the weight throw and topped the national provisional qualifying standard with a toss of 58-3.25. Ross Miller was fourth in the event (52-6) with Brett Allpow fifth (51-7).

FSU's Jon Cok tied for first in the high jumpt (6-6) while Roan Fahey was fifth in the men's 5,000 meters (15:39.91) and teammate Zach McKenzie came in seventh (15:51.69). Miller finished seventh in the shot put (47-7.25).

Meanwhile, Ferris State's men's distance medley relay squad of Logan Hammer, Chris Triffo, John Alberts and Ethan Israels ran a time of 10:51.06 to finish first.

FSU's Jajuan Pollock ran a time of 7.11 to finish fourth in the men's 60 meters. The Bulldogs' Alberts ran a personal best 1:57.89 in placing ninth in the 800 meters.

The Bulldogs' 4x400-meter relay group of Nate Meyer, Lucas Harris, Hunter Redman and Triffo was sixth (3:32.73).

Ferris state is next back in action on Feb. 10-11 at the Grand Valley State Big Meet in Allendale.
