Ferris State Track & Field Notches Four NCAA-Qualifying Performances At GLIAC Indoor Championships

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's indoor track and field teams closed action in the 2017 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships on Sunday (Feb. 26) in Findlay, Ohio.

Overall, the Bulldogs posted four NCAA qualifying performances in the two-day league championships hosted by the University of Findlay.

The Bulldog women placed 10th in the field with 21 total points in the championships while the men's squad garnered two points in a 12th-place team finish.

On the women's side, junior Molly Emerick placed second overall in the 800 meters as she clocked a NCAA Division II National Provisional qualification time with a runner-up performance in 2:12.44 overall.

Ferris State senior Emily Haynes came in fourth in the 5,000 meters (17:29.59) and also reached a national-qualifying time as did freshman Kathryn Etelamaki, who was a spot behind in fifth place (17:38.97). Senior Rachel McDonald placed eighth (17:59.64) in the same race.

The Bulldogs' Haynes also finished seventh in the 3,000 meters (10:12.92) with Etelamaki eighth (10:13.61) and McDonald 11th (10:30.82).

FSU's Natalie Perry took 11th place in the mile (5:10.63).

Meanwhile, Bulldog junior Jon Cok led the men's squad as he placed seventh in the high jump (6-8) and also posted a NCAA national qualifying performance.

Senior Logan Hammer came in 10th overall in the 3,000 meters (8:41.36) and was 12th overall in the mile run (4:23.21).

Ferris State was also ninth in the men's 4x400-meter relay (3:32.98).

The NCAA Division II National Indoor Championships are slated for March 10-11 in Birmingham, Ala. Official meet entries will be announced soon.
