Two FSU Athletes Compete At National Track Championships; Cok Earns All-America Honors In High Jump

Big Rapids, Mich. - Two members of the Ferris State University men's and women's indoor track and field squads wrapped up action in the 2017 NCAA Division II National Indoor Track & Field Championships with competition on Thursday and Friday (March 9-10) in Birmingham, Ala.

Junior Jon Cok (Grand Rapids/Christian) earned All-America honors in the high jump at the national championships as he placed sixth overall in the event with a top performance of 6-9 1/2 at the meet.

Meanwhile, fellow junior Molly Emerick (Lake Orion) received a berth in the 800 meters and clocked 2:18.81 in finishing 16th overall on Thursday during preliminary round competition.

A total of 540 participants, 270 men and 270 women, competed in the championships. Student-athletes qualified for the championships by reaching the automatic and provisional standards established for each event. The NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country Committee announced the participants championships.

The championships were held at the Birmingham CrossPlex, as part of the 2017 NCAA Division II National Championships Festival. The University of Alabama in Huntsville and the City of Birmingham served as co-hosts of the championships.

Previously, Emerick earned runner-up honors in the 800 meters at the 2017 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Indoor Championships held in Findlay, Ohio. Her time of 2:12.44 in the race was a national-qualifying performance. Emerick posted a top time of 2:10.93 in the race during the indoor campaign.

Meanwhile, Cok led the men's squad as he placed seventh in the high jump (6-8) at the conference indoor championships while also meeting the national-qualifying standard in the event. Cok's top performance this season in the high jump was 6-10.75 earlier this year.

By earning All-America recognition at the national championships, Cok became the first male student-athlete at FSU to earn All-America accolades in track and field since 2010 when Greg Burns finished sixth in the pole vault at the national indoor meet.
