Big Day For Ferris State Track & Field As 'Dawgs Combine For 31 Top 10 Performances At Home Event

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's outdoor track and field squads played host to the Bulldog Invitational on Saturday (April 8) at FSU's Top Taggart Field.

The meet served as the Bulldogs' lone home competition of the season and the competition included a number of competitors from schools across the state such as Calvin, Lake Superior State, Northern Michigan, Saginaw Valley State, Olivet, Alma and others.

Overall, the Bulldogs finished with four individual championships on the men's side. A total of five others earned runner-up honors in either the men's or women's competition and the two FSU squads combined for a total of 31 top-10 performances in the non-scoring meet.

Ferris State's Zach Mckenzie won the men's 3,000 meters in a time of 8:58.03 while Cody Stillwell captured the men's hammer throw (60.50m) and Jon Cok won the high jump (2.00m). FSU's Gunnar Meyer captured the javelin (54.21m).

The Bulldogs' Ja'Juan Pollock was the runner-up in the men's 100 meters (11.35) and Hayden Francisco was the runner-up in the javelin (54.04m).

Roan Fahey came in third in the 3,000 meters at 9:10.78 with freshman Grant Gabriel placing sixth (9:18.22). Francisco was sixth in the hammer throw (50.19m) and Ross Miller took sixth place in the shot put (14.12m).

FSU's Chris Triffo took fifth place in the 400 meters (51.37) while Logan Hammer finished seventh in the men's 1,500 meters (4:00.27) with Casey Neal taking ninth place (4:01.35). Brett Allpow placed sixth in the discus (45.60m) and was also eighth in the hammer throw (50.19m), John Alberts wound up eighth in the men's 800 meters (2:02.19) and Lucas Harris placed ninth in the 200 meters (23.88). Noah Minasola was 10th in the discus (38.11m).

The men's 4x400-meter relay team of Nate Meyer, Hunter Redman, Harris and Alberts clocked 3:31.99 in placing fourth overall.

Bulldog freshman Kathryn Etelamaki earned runner-up honors in the 3,000 meters (10:18.00) and FSU's Sarah Utchel finished second in the 100 meters (12.59) and was also second in the 200 meters (26.52). Emily Paulsen finished fourth in the javelin (29.34m).

FSU's Maycee Robinson finished fourth in the hammer throw (47.33m) and was sixth in the discus (40.00m). Senior Molly Emerick came in fifth overall in the 400 meters (59.73) and Jordan Lee was sixth in the 800 meters (2:30.09). Raven Blaser placed sixth in the long jump (4.97m).

The Bulldogs' Hannah Price placed seventh in the 100-meter hurdles (16.42) and Lydia Huisken was eighth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:12.05) and Kennedy Riebschleger placed ninth in the javelin (25.09m).

Ferris State's 4x400-meter relay team of Emerick, Lee, Larissa Medich and Cheyanna Rizor took third place overall (4:20.95).

The Bulldogs are next slated to take part in the Grand Valley State Al Owens Invitational on April 22-23 in Allendale.
