Several Ferris State Track & Field Athletes Reach NCAA-Qualifying Marks At Last Chance Events

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's track and field squads had a selected group of competitors take part in two different last chance meets hosted by Grand Valley State over the weekend in Allendale.

The two meets give performers one final opportunity to reach or improve upon NCAA national-qualifying times and marks for the 2017 NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships, which will take place at the end of the month in Bradenton, Fla.

The Bulldogs had six student-athletes compete on Friday at the GVSU Second To Last Chance competition with another taking part in Saturday's GVSU Last Chance event.

FSU's Racheal McDonald reached the national provisional standard in the women's 5,000 meters as she placed second overall in a time of 17:15.87. FSU's Emily Haynes also took part and came in fourth at 18:05.97 overall.

The Bulldogs' Trevor Holowaty won the men's 5,000 meters in a time of 15:03.47. Meanwhile, Cody Stillwell placed eighth and surpassed the national-qualifying mark in the hammer throw with a toss of 177-7. FSU's Ross Miller also competed in the hammer and was 10th (166-2) with Tyler Satkowiak taking 18th overall (151-6).

On Saturday, FSU's Jon Cok captured the men's high jump at the GVSU Last Chance meet with a performance of 6-8.75, which also topped the NCAA qualifying standard.

Selections for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships will be announced later this week.
