Ferris State's Jon Cok Named To 2017 CoSIDA Division II Academic All-America Squad

Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University junior track and field standout Jon Cok (Grand Rapids/Christian), who earned All-America honors during the indoor campaign, has been chosen as a 2017 CoSIDA Division II Academic All-American for his performance on the track and in the classroom.

Cok earned second-team Academic All-America laurels from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for the 2016-17 academic year. He was also named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team this season.

The Division II Academic All-America program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2016-17 Division II Academic All-America teams program. The award recipients are nominated and voted on by sports information directors from across the country and all nominees must maintain at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average.

This year, Cok claimed All-America honors by placing sixth overall in the high jump at the 2017 NCAA Division II Indoor Championships. He was also chosen to take part in the 2017 NCAA-II Outdoor Championships and placed 15th in the event at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. 

Cok had his best performance of the outdoor season at the Al Owens Classic in Allendale this year and finished among the top three overall in all six of his competitions during the outdoor regular-season campaign, including two first-place efforts and three runner-up performances. His top mark set a school record in the outdoor high jump this season.

Cok became the Bulldogs' first male student-athlete to claim All-America honors in track and field since 2010 by placing sixth overall in the high jump at the 2017 NCAA Division II Indoor National Championships with a performance of 6'9 1/2"". Cok had nine top-eight meet finishes during the indoor track season and won the high jump three different times. 

An All-GLIAC honoree, Cok was named to the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team and became FSU's first All-American in the high jump since 2006. He also is only the fourth All-American in men's track and field since the program was reinstated in 2000 and notched one of Ferris State's top five all-time indoor performances in the high jump in school history this season. 

Cok, an all-region honoree, placed at both the GLIAC and NCAA Championships in the high jump while also competing in both the long jump and triple jump at various points of the indoor season. He reached the national-qualifying standard multiple times during the season and was active in the program's community service initiatives. 

The Grand Rapids Christian product holds an impressive grade point average in FSU's acclaimed Product Design Engineering Technology program and previously earned distinction as a GLIAC Commissioner's Award honoree this year.
