Ferris State Track Competes For Final Time Prior To GLIAC Indoor Championships

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's indoor track and field squads had their final competition prior to the 2018 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships as FSU took part in the Grand Valley State Tune-Up meet this weekend in Allendale.

The event took place on the GVSU campus inside the Kelly Family Sports Center, which will also play host to the conference championships this coming weekend (Feb. 24-25).

Sarah Utchel placed third in the 200 meters (26.28) and was also fourth in the 60 meters (7.96). Teammate Nicole Snyder finished seventh in the 200 meters (27.21).

In the women's 400 meters, FSU's Salix Sampson was fourth (1:01.87) with Snyder placing sixth (1:03.00). Meanwhile, Jennifer Eaton was fifth in the 800 meters (2:23.87).

The Bulldogs had two individuals place in the top seven in the women's mile with Kathryn Etelamaki coming in fourth (5:02.23) and Carissa Schurr taking seventh place (5:05.94). FSU's Natalie Perry was third in the 3,000 meters (10:34.28) with Jordan Lee seventh (11:03.88) and Kelly Babcock eighth (11:16.71).

Ferris State also got a fourth-place performance from Hanna Price in the 60-meter hurdles (9.64) with Amanda Eslinger placing fifth in the high jump (5-1).

The FSU quartet of Sydney Dawes, Kylie Hutchinson, Katelyn Hutchinson and Schurr finished seceond in the 4x400-meter relay (4:12.34).

In men's action, the Bulldogs were led by Jon Cok, who won the high jump with a NCAA D2 National Provisional qualifying mark of 6-11 in the event.

Thrower Cody Stilwell also reached a national mark again in the weight throw where he placed second with a toss of 66-6. Meanwhile, Ross Miller was sixth in the weight throw and his top mark of 57-7.75 also reached the national qualifying standard.

Ferris State's Stanley Williams won the long jump (23-0.50) and was also fourth in the 60 meters (7.09). Lucas Harris came in seventh in the 200 meters (23.09) along with 12th in the 400 meters (51.56).

Bulldog senior Trevor Holowaty placed seventh in the mile run (4:22.81) while freshman Mark Jacobs was fifth in the 3,000 meters (8:58.71). Weston Rackley came in sixth in the 5,000 meters (16:46.52).

The Bulldog 4x400-meter relay squad of Dylan Hearns, John Alberts, Christian Hector and Holowaty placed fifth (3:36.18).
