Ferris State Combines For 14 Top-Eight Finishes At GLIAC Outdoor Track Championships

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's outdoor track and field squads combined for 14 top-eight showings at the 2018 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships, which took place Thursday and Friday (May 3-4) in Ashland, Ohio.

The Bulldog men's squad tallied 26 total points in the competition while the women's squad generated 17 team points among the 11 schools competing at the conference championships.

In the women's competition, sophomore Kathryn Etelamaki placed third in the 5,000 meters (18:20.60).

The Bulldogs' Sydney Dawes came in sixth in the 1,500 meters (4:50.00). Meanwhile, Sheridan Britney was seventh in the 400 meters (1:00.61). Reina Troxell finished seventh in the discus (37.14m).

FSU's Jordan Lee took eighth place in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (12:07.73) with Carissa Schurr eighth in the 800 meters (2:20.17). Kelly Babcock took ninth in the 10,000 meters (40:33.15).

The Bulldogs' 4x400-meter relay squad of Salix Sampson, Dawes, Schurr and Britney came in seventh overall (4:08.66).

On the men's side, FSU sophomore Stanley Williams took third place (7.25m) in the long jump and senior Chris Triffo placed third in the javelin (48.70m).

Junior Cody Stilwell placed third in the hammer throw (59.57m) while senior Jon Cok was fourth in the high jump (2.09m).

Senior Trevor Holowaty placed eighth in the 10,000 meters (33:07.25) with Zach Mckenzie placing 10th in the race (33:27.71).

Senior Brett Allpow was eighth in the discus (46.02m).

Damien Halverson narrowly missed placing among the top eight with a ninth-place performance in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:08.34).

The Bulldogs' 4x400-meter men's relay team of Christian Hector, Dylan Hearns, Mark Jacobs and Lucas Harris finished eighth (3:32.91).

Along with the individuals who finished among the top 10 overall, Ferris State had several other student-athletes who advanced to the finals or set new personal bests in the conference meet.

The Bulldogs have several provisional qualifiers for the 2018 NCAA Division II National Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which take place May 24-26 in Charlotte, N.C. The official meet entries will be announced soon.
