Bulldogs Notch Thirty Top Eight Finishes In Busy Weekend On The Track

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's indoor track and field squads had a busy weekend of action as the Bulldogs had selected student-athletes compete in two different in-state events, totaling a combined 30 top-eight finishes.

The Bulldogs sent a contingent of competitors to the Northern Michigan Challenge hosted inside the Superior Dome in Marquette while also having athletes in action at the annual Mike Lints Alumni Open hosted by Grand Valley State in Allendale.

In the Northern Michigan event, FSU's Ethan Israels won the 800 meters as he was clocked in 2:16.92 overall. Senior Damien Halverson won the 3,000 meters (9:16.88) with Aaron Jarema second (9:26.35), Donis Harris fourth (9:37.49), Weston Rackley fifth (9:59.05) and Gage Cleveland seventh (10:07.14).

The Bulldogs' Jarema took second place in the mile run (4:43.86) with Israels sixth (4:50.26) and Harris seventh (4:51.49).

FSU was also third in the men's 4x400-meter relay (4:02.25).

On the women's side, Jennifer Eaton claimed the 800 meters (2:25.95) with Taylor Thrush second (2:25.97) and Callie Delaney sixth (2:46.73). Kensington Garvey came in fifth in the mile run (5:42.91).

FSU's Katie Etelamaki won the 3,000 meters (10:48.35) with Kylie Hutchinson coming in fourth (11:06.31) and Hannah Loucks fifth (11:11.52). The Bulldog women were second in the 4x400-meter relay (4:30.55) and FSU also had a team place first in the distance medley relay (12:49.32) with another quartet finishing third (13:04.81) in the same event.

Meanwhile, in action at Grand Valley State, senior Sarah Utchel placed seventh in the 60-meter dash (8.06) and Amanda Esinger was eighth in the high jump (1.48m). Freshman Olivia Kraft took third place in the weight throw (15.65m) while freshman Brianna Copley was fourth in the shot put (12.78m).

In men's action at GVSU, junior Stanley Williams won the long jump (6.94m) and finished eighth in the 60 meters (7.33). Senior Cody Stilwell was the runner-up in the weight throw (19.47m) and reached the NCAA Division II National Provisional qualification mark.

Freshman Ben Menapace placed eighth in the 200 meters (23.17). He also was sixth in the 400 meters (50.66) and freshman Brett Robertson was sixth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.96).

The Bulldogs will return to action next weekend as they take part in the annual Saginaw Valley State Jet's Pizza Invitational on Friday and Saturday (Jan. 25-26) in University Center, Mich.
