Successful Weekend For Bulldog Track and Field At SVSU Invitational

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's track and field squads had a successful weekend of competition as the Bulldogs took part in the annual "Jet's Pizza" Invitational hosted by Saginaw Valley State inside the Ryder Center in Uniersity Center.

Ferris State's women's distance medley relay quartet of Taylor Thrush, Hannah Todd, Jennifer Eaton and Katie Etelamaki won their race in a time of 12:21.05.

Etelamaki earned runner-up honors in the 3,000 meters (10:11.35) with Hannah Loucks sixth (10:47.79) in the event. Loucks also placed fifth in the 5,000 meters (18:42.66).

The Bulldogs' Eaton came in third in the mile run (5;12.50) with Kylie Hutchinson eighth (5:20.67) in the same race. Olivia Kraft finished fourth in the weight throw (14.42m).

FSU's Sarah Utchel placed sixth in the 200 meters (26.37) and was eighth in the 60 meters (8.09). Amanda Esinger was sixth overall in the high jump (1.48m).

The Bulldog tandem of Todd, Katelyn Hutchinson, Kylie Hutchinson and Sheridan Brittney came in sixth in the 4x400-meter relay (4:20.34).

In the men's competition, Ferris State's Cody Stilwell won the weight throw and reached a NCAA Division II National qualifying mark with a throw of 19.56 meters.

FSU's Stanley Williams placed second in the long jump (6.39m) and came in sixth overall in the 60 meters (7.33).

The Bulldogs' Brett Robertson took fourth place in the 60-meter hurdles (9.02)and Jason Keena was fifth in the long jump (5.82m).

Senior Damien Halverson came in sixth in the 5,000 meters (15:27.14) and was also seventh in the 3,000 meters (8:50.60). FSU's Ben Menapace plaecd eighth in the 200 meters (23.37).

Ferris State's men's distance medley relay team of Logan Reimink, Menapace, Andrew Yaworski and Ethan Israels came in fifth in their event (11:20.27).

Along with the competition at SVSU, the Bulldogs also had selected athletes compete at the Can Am Invitational hosted by Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti over the weekend. Stilwell won the men's weight throw with a performance of 19.37 meters in a field dominated by Division I competition.

In addition, at Eastern Michigian, FSU's Kraft was 20th in the women's weight throw (14.87m) with Brianna Copley 15th in the shot put (11.96m).

Ferris State will next compete in the Grand Valley State "Big Meet" set for Feb. 8-9 in Allendale.
