Ferris State Opens Outdoor Track Season At MSU Spartan Invitational

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's track and field teams officially opened outdoor action this weekend as the Bulldogs competed in the Michigan State Spartan Invitational in East Lansing.

The meet featured athletes from across the region from all levels of competition.

Ferris State's Katie Etelamaki earned runner-up honors in the women's 5,000 meters (17:44.70) with freshman Hannah Loucks fifth (18:28.71) in the race and Kylie Hutchinson eighth (18:47.18).

Kennedy Riebschleger finished fifth in the javelin (105-8) with senior Hanna Price ninth overall (102-5) in the same event. Senior Sarah Utchel was sixth in the 400 meters (59.31).

FSU's Amanda Eslinger placed sixth in the high jump (5-2.50) while Brianna Copley took sixth place in the discus (131-5). Copley also came in sixth overall in the shot put (44-0.75) while Callie Delaney was sixth in the 800 meters (2:36.63). Liz Metzger placed 10th in the hammer throw (145-9).

On the men's side, the Bulldogs' Aaron Jarema won the men's unseeded 5,000 meters (15:45.34). Freshman Kolin Ghidoni was the runner-up in the 800 meters (2:04.11) and Stanley Williams placed second in the 100 meters (11.24).

FSU's Damien Halverson came in fourth in the 5,000 meter seeded race (15:14.00) with senior Zach Mckenzie sixth (15:44.00). Logan Reimink was fourth in the 1,500 meters (4:27.14) and Ethan Israels was seventh in the 800 meters (2:06.04). Freshman Brett Robertson took fifth place in the 400-meter hurdles (56.04) and also came in eighth place in the 110-meter hurdles (15.78).

Sophomore Weston Rackley came in eighth in the 5,000 meters (15:59.18) with freshman Ben Menapace ninth in the 400 meters (50.90) and freshman Donis Harris 10th (16:05.02) in the 5K race. Freshman Andrew Yaworski placed 10th in the 800 meters (2:09.24).

The Bulldogs are next scheduled to compete in the Bucknell Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, April 13-14, in Lewisburg, Pa.
