Ferris State Track Competes In Two Different Weekend Meets With Strong Results

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's track and field squads had student-athletes compete in two different competitions over the weekend.

The Bulldogs sent a selected group of athletes to the prestigious Bucknell Bison Invitational in Lewisburg, Pa., on Saturday and Sunday (April 13-14) where they competed against top standouts from across the country from all levels of competition. In addition, FSU also sent a contingent of competitors to the Hillsdale Invitational on Saturday in Hillsdale.

First, in the Bucknell meet, senior Katie Etelamaki was 16th overall and reached the NCAA Division II National Provisional qualification time in the 10,000 meters as she clocked 36:05.60.

The Bulldogs' Hannah Loucks placed ninth overall in the 5,000 meters (18:23.62) while Kensington Garvey finished 14th in the 3,000 meters (10:37.79).

On the men's side at Bucknell, FSU's Aaron Jarema came in sixth in the 3,000 meters (9:01.66) with Donis Harris 10th (9:11.20) and Weston Rackley 11th (9:12.03) in the race. Damien Halverson finished 10th overall in the men's 5,000 meters (15:03.92).

Senior All-American Cody Stilwell led the Bulldogs at Hillsdale as he also reached a D2 national qualification mark and won the hammer throw with a toss of 60.06 meters. Brett Robertson was the runner-up in the 400-meter hurdles (55.55).

The Bulldogs' Ben Menapace took third in the 400 meters (50.40) with Travis Feldpaush seventh in the race (53.79). Robertson placed fourth in the 110-meter hurdles (15.42), Ethan Israels came in fourth in the 1,500 meters (4:15.18) while Kolin Ghidoni was sixth in the 800 meters (2:03.93) and Andrew Yaworski finished seventh in the 1,500 (4:21.38).

Trevor Roznowski wound up ninth in the discus (39.54m) and also finished 10th in the hammer (38.00m).

On the women's side, Sarah Utchel placed fifth at Hillsdale in the 400 meters (59.99) with Hannah Todd seventh (1:02.53) in the race. Allyson Faulkner was third in the 400-meter hurdles (1:10.93) with Amanda Eslinger third in the high jump (1.52m).

In the throwing events, Olivia Kraft was the runner-up in the women's discus (42.66m) while Brianna Copley placed third in the discus (39.88) and third in the shot put (13.04m). Emma Stephayn finished sixth in the discus (36.60m) with Kraft seventh in the hammer (42.60m) and Liz Metzger eighth in the hammer throw (42.12m). Kennedy Riebschleger came in fourth in the javelin (29.07m).

FSU also placed third in the women's 4x400-meter relay (4:23.62) featuring a quartet of Todd, Utchel, Sheridan Britney and Callie Delaney.

Ferris State is next slated to take part in the Al Owens Classic hosted by Grand Valley State on April 19-20 in Allendale.
