Ferris State Holds Final Weekend Tune-Ups For Upcoming GLIAC Track Championships

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's track and field squads had their final preparations for the 2019 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships this past weekend as the Bulldogs competed in a pair of different meets.

Selected Bulldog athletes took part in the 53rd annual Hillsdale "Gina" Relays, which ran Thursday thru Saturday (April 25-27), while a majority competed in the Davenport Tune-Up meet on Saturday in Caledonia.

In the team race at Davenport, the Bulldog women earned runner-up honors among 14 competing schools in the team race with 95 total points while the men finished sixth with 64 points.

FSU's Katelyn Hutchinson won the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase (12:21.90) with Jordan Lee taking second place (12:34.29).

Meanwhile, Sarah Utchel claimed the 400 meters (59.73) with Hannah Todd finishing second (1:00.22).

The Bulldogs' Carissa Schurr finished first in the 800 meters (2:19.01) and Sydney Dawes captured second place in the 1,500 meters (4:53.74) while Amanda Eslinger earned runner-up honors in the high jump (1.52m). Utchel placed fourth in the 200 meters (26.47) with Todd sixth (26.75) and Veronica Coates seventh (27.20) in the race. Allyson Faulkner wound up sixth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:11.54).

In the throws, FSU's Brianna Copley won the shot put (13.37m). Olivia Kraft finished fourth in the discus (39.54m) and Copley was sixth (39.10m). Kennedy Riebschleger was sixth in the javelin (31.77m) with Faulkner ninth (25.99m).

On the men's side, Ferris State's Damien Halverson won the men's 1,500 meters (4:04.74) with Brett Robertson claiming the 400-meter hurdles (55.33). Aaron Jarema was the runner-up in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:04.50) and Robertson finished third in the 110-meter hurdles (15.89) with Gage Cleveland third in the 5,000 meters (16:21.86). Ben Menapace placed second in the 400 meters (50.77) and was also fourth in the 200 meters (22.78).

FSU's Stanley Williams claimed fourth place in the long jump (6.81m). Ethan Israels took sixth place in the 1,500 meters (4:14.56) and Logan Reimink was eighth (4:16.42) in the race. Kolin Ghidoni took seventh place in the 800 meters (2:02.71).

Meanwhile, at Hillsdale, Ferris State's Katie Etelamaki placed 17th in the 5,000 meters (17:19.62) in leading the women's squad while Halverson was 18th in the men's 5,000 meters (15:10.75).

The Bulldogs will take part in the 2019 GLIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which run Thursday and Friday (May 2-3) in Allendale.
