FSU's Katie Etelamaki Wins 10K As Bulldogs Open GLIAC Track Championships

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's outdoor track and field squads had an impressive opening day of action at the 2019 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships on Thursday (May 2) in Allendale.

FSU senior Katie Etelamaki claimed the league championship in the 10,000 meters as she reached a NCAA Division II National Provisional qualification time with a performance of 36:34.91.

The Bulldogs' Kennedy Riebschleger claimed sixth place in the javelin (32.01m).

Ferris State's Carissa Schurr reached the finals in the 800 meters as she clocekd 2:18.53 overall in notching the seventh-best preliminary showing.

The Bulldogs' Kylie Hutchinson came in with the 10th-best qualifying time in the 1,500 meters (4:55.01) to move into the finals. Meanwhile, Katelyn Hutchinson turned in a personal-best in taking 11th place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:49.49) with Jordan Lee 13th (12:24.62) while both senior Sarah Utchel and Hannah Todd had impressive runs in the 400 meters.

On the men's side, Bulldog All-American Cody Stilwell reached a Division II National Qualifying mark by taking fifth place in the hammer throw (58.33m).

Ferris State's Stanley Williams placed ninth in the long jump (6.55m).

FSU's Brett Robertson reached the finals in the 110-meter hurdles as he clocked 15.70 in finishing with the seventh-fastest preliminary performance. He also qualified for the finals in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.78, which marked the eighth-best prelim effort.

Senior Damien Halverson qualified for the finals in the 1,500 meters by running the 12th-best prelim time of 4:03.34.

The Bulldogs' Ben Menapace also ran a personal-best in taking 10th place in the 400 meters (50.23).

FSU's Aaron Jarema also clocked a personal-best in taking 10th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:55.08). Jason Keena also set a new personal best in the long jump.

Action wraps up with the final day of the GLIAC Championships on Friday at Grand Valley State.
