Ferris State Finishes Strong At 2023 GLIAC Indoor Track Championships

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's indoor track and field teams closed out the final day of action on Sunday (Feb. 26) at the 2023 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships in University Center.

The two-day league event was hosted by Saginaw Valley State inside the SVSU Fieldhouse.

Overall, the Bulldog men placed fifth as a team with 43 points while the women came in seventh overall with 23 points.

On the men's side, FSU's 43 total points were the squad's most since recording 87 points back in 1993 and the fifth-place indoor finish was the Bulldogs' best in 30 years, dating back to a runner-up effort in 1993. The women placed seventh for the second-straight year and the fourth time in the last five seasons.

The Bulldogs' Donis Harris won the 3,000 meters in Sunday's final day of action, clocking 8:21.11 en route to a first-place effort. Previously, he set a new school record on Saturday in the 5,000 meters with a time of 14:27.43 at the league championships, placing fourth overall and reaching a NCAA Division II national provisional qualifying mark.

The Bulldogs' Taariik Brett came in third overall in the 60 meters (6.96) and Bryce George finished seventh in the shot put (14.75m). Kyle Droulliard placed fifth in the weight throw (16.34m) and Aaron Pierce came in sixth in the long jump (6.42m).

FSU's Noah Griffith was seventh in the mile (4:18.05) with Dan Hardesty eighth (4:18.95). Andrew Shafley took seventh place in the 800 meters (1:55.14). Brandon Wirth came in 11th overall in the 3,000 meters (8:50.92).

The men's distance medley relay squad of Griffith, Lucas Vandam, Shafley and Hardesty took fourth (10:22.45) while FSU's 4x400-meter relay squad of Josiah Flora, Ethan Hamilton, Vandam and Shafley finished sixth (3:30.44).

The Bulldog women had a runner-up effort in the high jump as Claudia Wilkinson leaped 5-3.75 to place second in the event.

Ferris State's Danae Feldpausch placed fifth in the 800 meters (2:15.56) with Daisy Englund ninth (2:16.52). Whitney Farrell was ninth in the 3,000 meters (10:16.37).

Rebecca Marvin finished eighth in the shot put (11.74m) and Hanna Brock placed ninth in the mile run (5:13.46). FSU's Emma Stephayn placed seventh in the weight throw (16.36m) with Marvin 11th (13.13m). The Bulldogs' Sydney Kubiak was 11th in the women's 5,000 meters (18:16.96) while Melanea Strauss was 12th (18:27.85).

FSU's 4x400-meter relay team of Abigail Winkle, Englund, Makayla Roberts and Feldpausch placed fifth (4:03.43) as did FSU's women's distance medley relay contingent of Feldpausch, Winkle, Englund and Farrell (12:15.74).
