FSU Track Student-Athletes Compete At Last Chance Events

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's outdoor track and field squads had selected competitors compete in a pair of last chance events this week at two different locations.

The last chance events give student-athletes one final opportunity to reach or improve qualifying marks for the NCAA Division II Championships.

On Thursday (May 11), a trio of Bulldog men's runners took part in the Carius-Gregory Invitational hosted by North Central College in Illinois. FSU senior Donis Harris took second place in the 10,000 meters (31:55.38) while sophomore Brendan Cairney came in third (32:10.00) in the same race. Meanwhile, senior Brandon Wirth placed 19th in the 5,000 meters (15:56.90).

Ferris State also had student-athletes compete this week at the Grand Valley State Last Chance competition held on Tuesday (May 9) in Allendale. For the women, Rebecca Marvin placed sixth in the shot put (10.48m) along with 10th in the hammer throw (40.05m). The Bulldog men's team was represented by Kyle Drouillard, who placed ninth in the hammer throw (48.43m).

FSU's Harris is a provisional qualifier for the NCAA Division II National Championships in the 5,000 meters. The official NCAA Championship selections will be announced in the near future.
