Strong Day For Bulldog Track Squads At Golden Grizzly Invite

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's track and field squads competed on Saturday (April 6) at the Golden Grizzly Invite hosted by Oakland University in Rochester.

Ferris State had a pair of individual event winners in the competition, which included athletes from several schools from across the state and region, including NCAA Division I institutions.

The Bulldogs' Whitney Farrell won the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:56.84) while reaching the NCAA D2 National Provisional qualifying standards. Teammate Emily Plouff came in ninth (12:19.15) in the event.

FSU's Lacey Zimmerman placed sixth in the 200 meters (25.67) and Nyah Tyron was seventh in the 400 hurdles (1:06.06). Meanwhile, Melanea Strauss came in eighth in the 5,000 meters (18:36.37), Daisy Englund finished ninth in the 800 meters (2:19.75) and Danae Feldpausch was 11th in the 1,500 meters (4:52.81).

Ferris State's Rebecca Marvin was 10th in the shot put (36-4.75) and also came in 12th in the hammer throw (123-11) while Harley Bear took 11th in the discus (117-9). Isabel Dziadzio placed 13th in the javelin (80-2).

The Bulldogs also placed fourth in the women's 4x400-meter relay with the quartet of Tyron, Feldpausch, Englund and Abigail Winkle clocked in a time of 4:10.09 in the race.

In the men's competition, FSU's Chase Carter won the 200 meters (21.99) and was the runner-up in the 100 meters (10.70) while Bryson Fronta placed fifth (10.99) in the 100 and sixth in the 200 (22.37).

Ferris State's Dean Topolski finished seventh in the 400 meters (50.99) and Ben Knuth was ninth in the 5,000 meters (15:27.54) with Cooper Sorsen 10th (15:27.77) in the same race. FSU's Brandon Wirth placed seventh in the 3,000 steeplechase (9:47.73).

The Bulldogs' Hunter Richardson was ninth in the shot put (42-3.50) and Kyle Drouillard finished ninth in the hammer throw (150-3). Aaron Pierce was 10th in the long jump (19-10.75) and David Duvall came in 11th (19-5.25). Devin Dennison was 12th in the discus (129-4) and Richardson finished 13th (128-6). Dennison also came in 13th in the hammer (143-2) and Noah Jones was 13th in the javelin (113-6).

FSU also took third place in the men's 4x100-meter relay with the group of Blaine Rogers, Topolski, Fronta and Carter clocking 42.66.

The Bulldogs will compete next week at both the Bison Outdoor Classic on Friday and Saturday (April 12-13) in Lewisburg, Pa., along with the Jack Shaw Invite in Kalamazoo.
