Ferris State Men's & Women's Cross Country Teams Capture Home Invite Titles

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's cross country teams hosted the 2017 Ray Helsing Bulldog Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 9) at FSU's Katke Golf Course.

Both the Ferris State men's and women's teams finished first in the collegiate team competition.

In the men's race, the Bulldogs had four individuals finish among the top 10 overall. Senior Trevor Holowaty emerged as the individual champion in a time fo 25;26.4 overall.

Meanwhile, FSU's Damien Halverson clocked 27:04.9 in placing third with Zach McKenzie coming in sixth at 27:20.9 in the race. Ferris State's Aaron Jarema finished ninth (27:32.6) with John Alberts 10th (27:51.1) in the competition.

In the women's race, the Bulldogs had eight runners place among the top 10 overall. Kathryn Etelamaki earned runner-up honors (18:50.6) with Natalie Perry third (20:00.0) and Sydney Dawes fourth (20:04.5).

FSU freshman Abigail Johnson took sixth place (20:10.7), Kelly Babcock was seventh (20:24.9), Carissa Schurr came in eighth (20:31.3) while Jordan Lee finished ninth (20:37.4) and Katelyn Hutchinson wound up 10th (20:45.7).

Saturday's running was the 43rd annual event hosted by the Bulldogs and marked FSU's lone home competition of the year.

Ferris State returns to action on Friday, Sept. 15, at the Michigan State Spartan Invitational in East Lansing.
