Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's cross country teams had an impressive showing this past weekend in their season debuts.

The Bulldogs hosted the 43rd annual Ray Helsing Bulldog Invitational Saturday morning at Katke Golf Course on Ferris State's campus. FSU's men's and women's teams both finished first among their competitors.

"We're very young on both sides and we have a lot of freshmen so we're super excited," said Head Coach Jared Kelsh.

Senior Trevor Holowaty won the individual men's race by cruising to a finishing time of 25:26.4. The Bulldogs had four runners finish in the top 10 Saturday.

"I felt really relaxed," said Holowaty. "Coming out here and shaking the rust off with the team is a great way to start the season."

The Bulldog women also had a great first race of the season. Ferris State had eight women finish in the top 10 overall.  Kathryn Egelamaki, Natalie Perry, and Sydney Dawes all finished inside the top four Saturday morning to help the women place first overall.

The Bulldogs will next head to East Lansing to take part in the Michigan State Spartan Invitational on Friday, Sept. 15.
