Ferris State's Trevor Holowaty Wraps Up Action In 2017 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships

Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University senior cross country runner Trevor Holowaty competed in the 2017 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships on Saturday (Nov. 18) in Evansville, Ind.

Holowaty came in 127th overall in a highly-competitive field in a time of 33:22.6 on the 10K course as FSU's representative at the national championships.

The Bulldog senior was among the national championship qualifiers for the event, which took place at Angel Mounds Course. The University of Southern Indiana and the Evansville Sports Corporation served as the co-hosts of the championships.

In order to be eligible to participate in the championships, teams and individuals had to qualify in their respective NCAA regional competitions that were held two weeks ago.

Thirty-two teams were selected to participate in each championship. The top three, seven-person teams automatically qualified from each of the eight regions, for a total of 24 teams. Eight additional teams were selected at-large. A minimum of 24 additional individuals were selected to participate in each championship through an automatic qualifier and at-large selection process.

Holowaty was one of four individuals from the Midwest Region chosen to compete along with Daniel Michalski of Cedarville, Tiffin's James Ngandu and Armando Torres from Wisconsin-Parkside.

This year, Holowaty took 10th place at the 2017 NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Championships on Nov. 4 in Cedarville, Ohio. He clocked 31:39.3 on the 10K course at the regional championships while leading FSU to a 14th-place team finish in a strong field of close to 30 teams at the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course.

Along with earning All-Region accolades this year, Holowaty also was a first-team All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) selection after placing ninth overall in the 2017 GLIAC Championships on Oct. 21 in Marquette.
