#1-Ranked Alabama-Huntsville Overpowers Ferris State

The Ferris State University softball team came into this Saturday's (Feb. 20) matchup against the nation's top-ranked Alabama-Huntsville in search of its first victory of the season but the Chargers refused to be the first casualty in handing the Bulldogs an 8-2 loss in non-league action at the Alabama-Huntsville Charger Chillout in Decatur, Ala.

Ferris State saw its 2010 season record drop to 0-4 overall this spring with the setback.

Alabama-Huntsville came into the game ranked as the national preseason favorite for the 2010 season by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) in its annual preseason poll.

The Bulldogs generated five base hits of UAH pitchers with junior catcher Rachel Mueller (Santa Clarita, Calif./Valencia) and freshman outfielder Morgan Kramerich (Crest Hill, Ill./Lockport) paving the way by going two-for-four in the batting department.  The other Ferris State hit came off the bat of sophomore outfielder Stephanie Dusendang (Comstock Park/Rockford).

Senior pitcher Kayle Stevenson (Holland/West Ottawa) took the loss in a starting role as her record dips to 0-2 this campaign.  Stevenson allowed six runs, five hits and walked one in four and two-third innings of work.  Fellow senior Rhea Flores (Dearborn Heights/Southgate Anderson) finished up for the Bulldogs by throwing the final two and two-third innings of scoreless relief.  She struck out two batters and allowed only one base hit.

Ferris State will finish up play at the 2010 Alabama-Huntsville Charger Chillout on Sunday (Feb. 21), beginning with a 9 a.m. (CST) matchup versus West Georgia.  The Bulldogs then conclude tournament play against Southern Indiana with the first pitch scheduled to be thrown at 11 a.m. (CST).
