Softball Suffers 4-1 Loss To Augusta State

The offensive woes for the 2010 Ferris State University softball team continued as the Bulldogs managed only four hits en route to a 4-1 loss to Augusta (Ga.) State this Friday (Feb. 19) in their second appearance at the Alabama-Huntsville Charger Chillout in Decatur, Ala.

The non-conference setback drops Ferris State to 0-2 overall this season.

Junior catcher Rachel Mueller (Santa Clarita, Calif./Valencia) was the Bulldogs' top performer at the plate with three base hits in three official plate appearances.  She recorded a double to go with a pair of singles.  Junior outfielder Colleen Roney (Wheaton, Ill./Glen Ellyn Glenbard South) managed the other FSU hit as she went one-for-two and had a walk.

Pitcher Dana Bowler (Lockport, Ill.) started for Ferris State in what marked her collegiate debut.  The freshman hurler struck out six and walked two while allowing five hits in a complete seven-inning game performance.

For Augusta State, Jessica Thornton led the way with a two-for-three hitting performance which featured a home run.  Sara DeMuth picked up the victory for the Jaguars (3-3 overall) as a result of striking out eight in seven innings of work.

Ferris State will be in search of its first victory of the young 2010 season this Saturday (Feb. 20) in day two at the Alabama-Huntsville Charger Chillout.  The Bulldogs face Indianapolis at 10 a.m. (CST) before going up against host and national preseason favorite Alabama-Huntsville in its second and final contest of the day.  Opening pitch is slated for 12 p.m. (CST).
